Kelowna RCMP highlight arrests, seizures under provincial enforcement funding

Kelowna RCMP say provincial funding targeting violent and repeat offenders has led to dozens of arrests and the seizure of drugs, weapons and cash over seven months.

Through B.C.’s Special Investigations and Targeted Enforcement program, officers conducted enhanced, intelligence-led patrols from June 1, 2025, to Jan. 15, 2026, focusing on high-risk offenders and areas experiencing elevated violence and disorder. Police opened more than 456 new files, arrested 121 people and recommended 163 charges, while executing 10 warrants and issuing 63 violation tickets. Officers also interrupted a break-and-enter in progress and took the suspects into custody.

RCMP say weapons seized include four handguns, nine imitation or improvised firearms and a long gun with ammunition, along with bear spray, edged weapons and other items commonly linked to criminal activity.

Investigators also report seizing 237 grams of fentanyl, 694 grams of methamphetamine and 311 grams of cocaine, in addition to other illicit substances and nearly 600 prescription pills. Police say $55,528 in cash, illegal tobacco and vaping products, a stolen vehicle and two vehicles suspected as proceeds of crime were also seized.

The funding supported specialized gang enforcement training in January for Okanagan RCMP detachments and contributed to the launch of a Kelowna Gang Enforcement Team pilot project focused on organized crime and repeat violent offenders.
