A strong third period propelled the Vernon Vipers to a 5-3 win over the Trail Smoke Eaters on Tuesday at the Comino Arena, giving the Vipers a commanding 3-0 series lead.

Goals from Anthony Cliche, Adam Csabi and Isaac Tremblay in the final frame led the Vipers to victory in the penalty-filled game before a crowd of 1,101 fans in Trail.

Shea Busch added two goals for Vernon and Ethan David got his third straight win in net.

“That was a game full of emotion,” Vipers assistant coach Colton Sparrow said. “It was full of ups and downs as we came from behind twice. “This is a character win from our group. Everyone had a hand in that one.”

The Vipers can wrap up the best of 7 series Wednesday night in Trail, a game you hear on Abby Dental Vipers hockey on Beach Radio.

The pre-game show with Graham Turnbull starts at 6:45 p.m.

Elsewhere in the BCHL playoffs, the Penticton Vees and West Kelowna Warriors also took 3-0 leads in their respective series with wins on Tuesday.

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks took a 2-1 lead over the Merritt Centennials with a 4-1 win.
