Vernon/Coldstream vaccination rates continue slow climb

Feb 3, 2022 | 6:00 AM

The COVID-19 vaccination rates for the Vernon/Coldstream area saw very little movement this week.

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) data shows that, as of Monday, Jan. 31, the area’s vaccination rate for children aged five to 11 was 45 per cent. That’s up just one point from the previous week.

Okanagan Mission continued to lead the Interior’s vaccination rate, reporting that 60 per cent of children aged five to 11 in the area had received their first dose. Kettle Valley had the lowest rate for that age group in the Interior at 17 per cent.

The Interior as a whole recorded a vaccination rate of 42 per cent for kids, while the provincial figure Monday was reported to be 52 per cent.

In the 12 to 17 age group, Vernon/Coldstream reported a first dose rate of 84 per cent and a second dose rate of 79 per cent. That represents a one per cent increase in first doses, though the second jab rate was unchanged.

Kamloops Centre South had the highest first dose rate for that age group at 91 per cent, while Kettle Valley had the lowest rate at 49 per cent.

The BCCDC data showed that 82 per cent of adults aged 18 to 49 in Vernon/Coldstream had received a first dose of a vaccine and 79 per cent were double dosed. The figures from Monday are the same as those recorded the previous week.

Comparatively, both Glenmore and Kamloops Centre South recorded first dose rates in their 18 to 49 populations at 98 per cent, while Enderby had the lowest rate at 65 per cent.

Vernon/Coldstream also had a first dose rate of 91 per cent for residents aged 50 and over and a second dose rate of 90 per cent, which was the same as the week before.

Kamloops Centre South had the highest first dose rate for the 50 and over group at 94 per cent, while Kettle Valley had the lowest rate in the Interior at 78 per cent.

Additionally, the BCCDC data shows that 80 per cent of Vernon/Coldstream residents aged 70 and over have received a third COVID-19 vaccine. That marks a four per cent increase from the previous Monday.

The highest booster-shot rate for that age group was recorded at 84 per cent in Kamloops Centre South, while the lowest rate was 62 per cent in Kettle Valley.

The Interior’s booster rate for those aged 70 and over was recorded at 77 Monday, while the provincial rate was 79 per cent.
