251 housing starts, 222 completions in 2021

Vernon sees 27 housing starts, 26 completions in November

Housing construction continued to go in November, through the projects started were far fewer than those reported the year before.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) figures show that 26 housing projects were started in Vernon during the month of November.

That is down significantly from the 144 in the same month last year.

The CMHC stats show the new housing this November consisted of 16 single dwellings, two semi-detached, four row houses, and five apartments.

To date, there have been 251 housing starts in Vernon. That is also down from last year’s figures, when 309 projects were started between January and November.

The amount of housing project completions in Vernon during November of 2021 was reported at 26, up from the 20 in the same month the year prior.

The projects finished in November include eight single houses, two semi-detached homes, 15 row houses, and one apartment.

To date, 222 housing projects have been completed, though that is well below the 498 in the first 11 months of 2020.

There were also 25 absorptions, or houses completed and sold, in November of 2021. To date 217 houses have been sold in Vernon.

Last November there were 22 absorptions, and there were 227 in 2020.

The CMHC says there remains 385 housing projects under construction. Those consist of 147 single houses, 26 semi-detached houses, 59 row houses, and 153 apartments.
