366 new Covid cases in B.C; 16 in Interior

Another big jump in Covid-19 cases over the weekend in B.C.

Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 366 new cases on Monday, including 128 between Sunday and Monday.

The total included 16 new cases in the Interior Health region.

Henry also reported four more deaths, two in Vancouver Coastal, one in Fraser and one in Northern Health, raising the provincial death toll to 227.

The province’s top doctor said while there have been a number of exposures to Covid in schools, there have been no transmissions, clusters or outbreaks.

There are now 1,987 active cases, with 60 iof those people in hospital and 21 in critical or intensive care, and there are 3,233 people under public health monitoring and 5,972 people have recovered from the virus.

There is one new health care outbreak at Yaletown Health, a long term care facility in the Vancouver area, where one health care worker has been identified, and there are no new community outbreaks

Henry told her Monday news update, where she was without Health Minister Adrian Dix now that the election has been called, her office has been working with Elections BC since March on election plans.

“The guidelines include how parties and candidates can keep their staff,candidates, their volunteers and communities safe during the campaign, and how elections processes can ensure everyone can remain safe,” stated Henry.

Henry will have more on election safety Tuesday when she hosts a media event with the chief electoral officer.

  • 86 people from outside Canada

  • Friday to Saturday: 121
  • Saturday to Sunday 117

  • Total: 366 new cases
  • Total cases since pandemic started: 8,208
