Vipers drop New Year’s clash to Vees

A crowd of 2.023 came out to Kal Tire Place on New Year’s Day as the Vernon Vipers fell 3-1 to the Penticton Vees.

Goals from Liam Malmquist and Evan McIntyre in the second period snapped a 1-1 tie and propelled the Interior Division leading Vees to victory.

Tristan Amonte, the 19-year-old son of former NHL’er Tony Amonte, also scored for Penticton.

Vernon standouts included Christian Felton with his third goal of the season, and James Porter Jr. who stopped 24 of 27 shots in net.

The Vipers fell to 20-16-1-1 on the season, and are fourth in the division, two points back of the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

The Vees improved to 28-10-1-1, second overall in the BCHL, 8 points back of the league leading Coquitlam Express. who top the Mainland Division.

The Vipers next play Saturday Jan. 4 when they host the Express for a 6 p.m. game.
