Teddy Bear Toss night ends with Vipers victory

It’s one of the highlighted games of the Vernon Vipers season.

The annual Teddy Bear Toss brought out 2,128 fans to Kal Tire Place Saturday night and they saw the hometown Vipers defeat the Wenatchee Wild 6-4.

Matt Kowalski’s 17th goal of the season 12:38 into the first period tied the game at 1 and brought a barrage of furry animals onto the ice.

Dawson Holt and Cameron MacDonald each scored two goals for Vernon while captain Connor Marritt added three assists.

James Porter Jr. made 34 saves for the win in net as the Vipers improved to 17-12-1-1 and into a tie for fourth place in the Interior Division with the Wild.

The Vipers conclude their busy weekend with a trip to Merritt to play the Centennials Sunday at 2 p.m. a game you can hear on 107.5 Beach Radio.

Elsewhere in the BCHL, Alberni Valley Bulldogs topped Salmon Arm Silverbacks 5-2 and the Interior leading Penticton Vees edged West Kelowna Warriors 3-2
