Regional Water Supply Improving Despite Dry Summer

Greater Vernon residents have been cutting back on their water use — which is helping to keep reservoir levels in in good shape.

Jennifer Miles, water sustainability coordinator for the Regional District of North Okanagan, says despite the dry summer, their supply is actually improving.

“We’re very close to being normal (currently in Stage 1). There was a drop in demand at the beginning of August, so the curve has leveled out and is not dropping as steeply.”
Residents are currently limited to outdoor watering three days a week, based on the odd-even address system.

“There are a lot of factors that affect our water demand. Of course, the beginning of August is also a long weekend, so a lot of residents head out of town, so it may be the holiday factor coming into play as well.”
