Coldstream Sees Park And Ride In Future

Aug 22, 2017 | 5:42 AM

Coldstream may be taking a look at how it can improve park and ride services throughout the community.

Mayor Jim Garlick says more people want it and there’s an area by Okanagan College that would be good for the UBCO Connector.

“Because people drive up there from the community because our transit system within the community is not so extensive, so they would drive up to there and be able to take the bus then down to Kelowna to UBCO.”

Mayor Garlick says he’d like to see if a section of land where there is a widening of the reservoir road near the forestry research station could be utilized.

He wonders about other land across the highway could be used.

“There’s a larger lot I believe that’s owned by the Ministry of Defence. It’s not really used for anything and that would be a great park and ride and sort of staging area for transit to leave down to UBCO.”

Garlick says other areas could use new transit routes with park and rides.

“Transit at this time is not prepared to take them on until another site is set up at the Polson Mall

At this point, there is no plan for a new bus exchange at the mall.

The Mayor says Middleton Mountain is one area that could use improved service.

Garlick hopes to have the idea of a new park and ride near the college included in budget talks this fall.
