Leashed Dogs In Polson Park
It’s all about getting more people using Polson Park.
That’s what City of Vernon officials are saying about a plan to allow on-leash dogs in the park on a two year pilot program.
“There is a lot of people who like to take their dogs for walks and Polson Park is quite a big area to walk your dog. As long as the dog is on leash we’re going to open it up to bring more people to the area. That’s exactly what it’s for,” says Mayor Akbal Mund.
Mund says it’s something the public has asked for.
“We have a lot of events in Polson Park. A lot of walks for charities. People have always asked why can’t I bring my dog here on-leash to enjoy the outdoors, and take a walk with me? We’re gonna try it. It’s a two year trial period. We’ll see how it goes.”
A date to begin the pilot project hasn’t been set.
There are some things the city has to do first.
“Bringing dogs to the park also requires to put up stands that we can put bags in. Just little things that we have to get done. Signage. That kind of stuff has to be done before we actually allow dogs into the park.”
Mund realizes dogs can cause issues for park users, but the plan also calls for more bylaw presence.
The city is also looking at improving the playground, and trimming the vegetation along the path and boardwalk.
