Boot Drive Colllects For Fire Victims

Aug 18, 2017 | 1:00 PM

The Red Cross Fire Relief Fund will be the focus of Saturday’s Boot Drive by members of the Coldstream Fire Department.

Fire chief Dave Sturgeon says the firefighters will be collecting donations at Kalamalka Road and College Way, and on Middleton Way near the District’s boundary, from 9 am to 1 pm.

“All the funds are going to be directed to Red Cross relief in the Cariboo region, specifically we’re trying to target the 150 Mile House area, because that’s where Coldstream firefighters helped out with the response there,” Sturgeon tells kiss FM.

The event usually raises funds for Coldstream’s annual Halloween fireworks, but that’s been cancelled this year due to damage to the Kal Beach pier.

“Generally we do it later in October and the response is really well received and people are very generous, so were hoping by holding it a little bit earlier, maybe we’ll catch some tourists and people will be happy to donate to the cause,” adds Sturgeon, who heads the 25 member volunteer department.
