North Okanagan Lawyer Appointed Judge

A lawyer who has served as a crown counsel in Vernon has been appointed a Provincial Court Judge.

Mariane Ruth Armstrong has worked as Crown counsel for the Criminal Justice Branch in Salmon Arm and Vernon from 1989 to 2005 and from 2006 to the present.

She currently serves as administrative Crown counsel for Salmon Arm.

She will be assigned to Kamloops in the Interior Region.

Armstrong is one of three new judges appointed today by the Attorney-General.

Two other judges were re-appointed, including senior judge William Gordon MacDonald is being re-appointed for a one-year term to address immediate short-term needs of the court.

He will sit throughout the province.

Judge Monica McParland has held positions as federal and provincial Crown counsel.

She joined Pushor Mitchell LLP in Kelowna where she was initially an agent for the federal Crown conducting drug prosecutions.

In March 2014, she shifted her practice area to family law.

She will be assigned to Kelowna.
