Crime Watch For Enderby Mayor

Enderby Mayor Greg McCune is concerned about an increase in crime in the community.

Enderby Council heard from RCMP from this week in their 2nd quarter report about an increase in calls.

McCune says Break and Enters are up but he’s not sure why, hoping the Food Bank would have alleviated part of the problem.

“If you give food to as many people as you can even though some of them probably don’t qualify, does that ease break and entries.

McCune says he knows thieves are also looking for money for drugs.

RCMP have been active in dealing with the drug trade.

“All they have to do is pick up one or two people, which then eliminates their ability to get drugs, which then eliminates their ability to have a little bit of money, so they always choose to break and enter.”

McCune knows it’s a social issue and it’s always hard to try to make a difference.

He’s hoping the new citizen’s patrol will help quell some of the criminal activity.

But he also thinks Enderby needs an officer assigned to it specifically.

McCune and the Mayors of Armstrong, Spallumcheen and Falkland will be meeting with the RCMP Superintendent on Friday to discuss his report and the future of policing in their areas.
