Aug 15, 2017 | 11:35 AM

The amount candidates spent — and received in donations — in this year’s BC election have been released by Elections BC.

In Vernon Monashee, Liberal Eric Foster spent $75,027 to win his third term, more than double the $32, 385 spent by NDP candidate Barry Dorval who was second.

“The biggest part of it is advertising and phone calling. You’ve go to make sure everybody knows you’re her,” Foster tells Kiss FM.

Green candidate Keli Westgate had about $4,490 expenses, while Libertarian Don Jefcoat spent $218.

As for donations, the legal firm Nixon Wenger was Foster’s top backer with $3,000 while Wesbild Holdings provided $2,500.

“They support free enterprise. Whether it was me or Tom Christensen before me, or April Sanders before him, free enterprisers support  free enterprise governments,” adds Foster.

Foster had a total of $23,050 in contributions.

Dorval didn’t receive any political donations, Westgate received $1,817, and Jefcoat had $205.
