Aug 12, 2017 | 11:54 PM

Two new wildfires have broken out in southeast BC.

BC Wildfire has reported 2 new wildfires which have been named Kokanee Creek.

The area affected runs between Sitkum Creek and the Crescent Bay area on the North Shore of Nelson, BC.

The 70-hectare fire about 15 kilometres northeast of Nelson has prompted the Regional District of Central Kootenay to issue an evacuation alert.

The alert includes 135 properties.

This fire is burning in steep and difficult terrain. BC Wildfire Service personnel are on site and were supported by airtankers.

Meanwhile, in the south Cariboo, new fires have broken out, some caused by lightning and an evacuation Order : for Canim Lake Area.

The area includes Bates Road to Mahood Lake Road.

Meanwhile there are also reports that fast moving fire forced ground crews in the area of Hihium, about 30 kilometres east of Clinton, to evacuate.

Unconfirmed reports say some were trapped and had to be air lifted out.

Hihium lodge and cabins were reported burned.

As well, an evacuation order has been issued for Alexis Creek to Riske Creek.

This order is replacing the evacuation order issued earlier today from Highway 20 from West of Hanceville to Risk Creek.
