Fireworks Show Scrapped For Kal Pier

Damage to the pier at Kalamalka Beach from the high water this spring will mean no fireworks at that site in Coldstream this Halloween.

The District of Coldstream says due to the significant damage to the pier, it’s not expected to be ready in time for the Oct. 31st fireworks show, which is where they are lit from.

Coldstream’s chief administrative officer Trevor Seibel says the pier is owned by the regional district, and they will be in charge of repairs.

“A preliminary assessment (showed) there was some concerns with the pilings from the wind, but we’re still waiting on the information to confirm the extent of the damage,” Seibel tells Kiss FM.

The Coldstream Fire Department’s annual “Boot drive” fundraiser — which normally raises funds for the fireworks — will instead be used as a fundraiser for the Red Cross with the proceeds going to support wildfire relief efforts.

The “Boot Drive” will take place on Saturday August 19 from 9 am to 1 pm at the intersection of College Way and Kalamalka Road and at the Coldstream boundary on Middleton Way.

The Lavington Fire Hall will continue to provide a Halloween fireworks show at Lavington Park, and with the anticipation of a larger crowd, the Lavington Fire Hall will be working to pull off the biggest and best fireworks display in recent memory.
