Hot & Dry July

Vernon just had the fifth warmest July on record, with the weather stats dating back more than a century.

Alyssa Charbonneau from Environment Canada says the average temperature was 22.4 — well up from the normal 19.1.

“36.9 degrees was the hottest day of the month, and that was set o the 6th of July.”

Charbonneau says July was officially rainless — with no precipitation recorded at the Coldstream Ranch site throughout the month.

“There were some days we had some scattered showers, and it’s possible some areas not at the observing site did see some light precipitation, but actually what we had at the site was none recorded.”

Charbonneau says it was the first July in Vernon without rain, with records going back to 1900.

“Normally in July we get an average of 45.6 millimetres,” says Charbonneau.
