Games Check Out Sites
Organizers of the 55+ BC Games slated for Vernon this September are confident they’re on track.
Anne Haight, the Director of Promotions, says they’ll be checking out locations next.
“We’re doing our venue tour this weekend so the directors are going around to the various locations for all the different sports so we can see where they’re going to be and the logistics and that.”
That includes Kal Tire Place and the curling club.
Close to 300 volunteers have signed up.
The committee is hoping to get as many as 1200 volunteers, and Haight says a big push will be done in May.
“We kind of figured a lot of the people who go down south come back around now, so we’ll start pushing.”
People can go to the volunteer registration link on the Games website at www.55plusgames.ca/volunteers.
Haight says some people have found that a bit complicated.
“On the site you kind of have to commit to an area, which people might not necessarily know where they want to be based on their likes and their skill sets and that.”
The committee has arranged several locations where people can sign up on paper.
They are: Rec Centre, Games office, City hall, Library, Kal Tire Place, Schubert Centre, Okanagan College and Nexus
The Sunshine Festival this year will be the site of the Games torch lighting ceremony.
