Park Vehicles Targeted

Spring has arrived — and so has an annual crime problem.

Police are reminding the public not to leave valuables in vehicles when they go to parks and other recreational areas.

“Every year we receive numerous reports of wallets, electronics, money and other expensive items that are left in cars in recreational parking areas, and have been stolen,” says Cst. Jocelyn Noseworthy

Noseworthy says people are asked to not leave any valuables in plain view in their cars  — and to lock the doors.

“Our thieves have figured out in this area that if you are there, you are probably there for a few hours which gives them a chance to either open your door, break your window, take it, and go.”

Noseworthy says all parks are vulnerable.

“We’ve had all of them hit. Kal Lake Park, a couple of parking lots have been hit a few times already.”

The constable says the same advice goes for anywhere you park your vehicle.

“It’s the same thing we see people leaving in their cars at night in their own driveways: laptops, purses and wallets.”
