Kin Track Delay ‘Necessary’

It may be inconvenient — but a member of the Okanagan Equestrian Society agrees with delaying their court case over use of Vernon’s Kin Race Track.

The civil trial with the City of Vernon was supposed to start this week in New Westminster but was adjourned.

It will likely resume in the summer or fall after dealing with with a new notice of claim.

Ed Woolley, vice president of the society, says it deals with the issue of the grandstands which burned down in 2014.

“The original claim was filed prior to the grandstands burning down, so as a result there is an additional claim now in regards to replacing the grandstands.”

The two sides have been battling over the issue since the society was evicted from the park seven years ago.

“(The delay) is an aggravation and inconvenient for everyone, but at the same time, I think it’s necessary under the circumstances,” Woolley tells Kiss FM.

Woolley says the grandstand issues has to be dealt with.

“And if that means it gets pushed back a number of months for another trial date, then so be it.”

The City of Vernon is not commenting on the case as they say it’s before the courts.
