Coldstream Residents Impacted By Closure

The construction of a new multi-use pathway in Vernon along Kalamalka Lake Road will have far reaching effects in Coldstream.

Mayor Jim Garlick says the traffic interruption for six months will definitely inconvenience residents as well as delaying efforts to connect that trail to the new Okanagan Rail Trail at College Way and Kal Road.

“That will probably happen as a next year’s project because then we’ll have a better picture of how we are going to connect from that area to the rail trail. There are a bunch of things up in the air as far as making the final connection through there,” Garlick tells Kiss FM.

Garlick says the District will be erecting signage to re-direct residents to other routes like College Way.

“It’s a little bit more of an awkward access into the City of Vernon, but its better than what we had previously and then we’ll also have Husband Drive and Aberdeen on Highway 6.”

Garlick says a decision on what to do with land they bought bordering the Alpine Centre will also be put on hold a year until this trail is completed.

“We’re holding back a little bit on our end of the trail and we thing we’ll do that next year when we know things a little better and we have a better picture for the land itself, what are plans are for it.”
