Equestrian Society Needs to Sell More Debentures

The future of the Kin Race Track site in Vernon should be decided by a court case that begins in Vancouver next week.

The Okanagan Equestrian Society and City of Vernon are at odds over the lands, with the Society wanting it kept for horse events and the City looking at other recreational uses for the land.

Society President Robyn Dalziel says they have sold enough debentures to cover the lawyer’s fees, but they still need to sell a lot more.

“We’re going to need more money to contribute to the number of witnesses that are going down. We need to provide the expenses, airfare, meals, hotels, everything for all of the witnesses.”

The Society was selling $250 debentures to raise money to cover court costs.

“Some of the witnesses are on standby and may or may not be called, but if they are called we are going to need to pay for their expenses and everything.”

A GoFundMe account was set up initially to try to raise $50,000.
