Jail For Serial Bank Robber

Mar 1, 2017 | 8:24 AM

A serial bank robber who used a fake gun during eight of nine bank robberies in Western Canada including one here in Vernon at Interior Savings Credit Union has been sentenced to four years in jail.

29-year old Shaun Cornish was actually sentenced to 7 years yesterday in Kamloops court, but that was reduced by 36 months for time spent in prison since his arrest in January of 2015.

Cornish held up his first bank in Princeton in December of 2014 and then hit banks in Vernon and Aldergrove before heading to Alberta and Saskatchewan for six more.

Cornish had no previous criminal history but admitted he started robbing banks after gambling, alcohol and drug addictions cost him a well-paying job with a Calgary company.
