North Westside to Get Governance Study
Residents of the North Westside electoral area in the Central Okanagan Regional District are getting their governance study.
Provincial Community, Sports & Culture Minister Peter Fassbender has approved the $20-thousand dollar grant so the study can be done. Now it’s just up to CORD to hire an independent consultant to conduct it.
Area Director Wayne Carson says all residents want are the facts to make an informed decision on possible self-governance.
“We are looking for the information to make a good decision on what our future governance would look like as the North Westside. That is what we’ve been looking for all along. Nobody out here is stupid, nobody wants to make a move without the proper information.”
Carson says this study will provide the facts so residents can decide whether or not they should vote to become their own municipality.
“We shouldn’t make any decisions until we have information to base those decisions on. There’s no point getting your hopes up that your going to become a major municipality out there, a big player on the field, when you know it may not be possible.”
“We need to know what all these services cost and what would be the affect on us if we did try to take them over and run them ourselves.”
The Central Okanagan Regional District will determine the future timeline for the study likely tonight (Monday) at it’s board meeting.
