Airport Inn Business License Not Renewed

Feb 22, 2017 | 8:14 AM

Lake Country council has taken some drastic measures to shut down a motel that continually ignored local bylaws and regulations.

The Airport Inn owned by Raif Fleihan will not have it’s business license renewed for 2017 due to a number of bylaws and Provincial statutes that were not complied with.

Council also ruled that no new business license would be issued until the motel upgrades and meets all regulations.

The bylaw officer and license inspector also will continue to inspect the premises until compliance is met.

Lake Country’s Community development manager Jamie McEwan says the business has a long history of making renovations without the proper permits.

“We began looking at the process of how do we bring this business into compliance because even following letters of notification to this effect, the business owner took no action to remedy the issue,” McEwan tells Kiss FM.

McEwan says the building, located along Highway 97 in Winfield, has electrical problems, water-logged floors, and mold.

Fleihan will have to bring the building up to code to get the license back, but he denies the claims, and says he will take the District to court.
