Driver To Plead Guilty In Fatal Crash

A Vernon woman is expected to be sentenced later this month for a crash that killed an off-duty nurse and injured another.

39 year old Lori Vance will be in provincial court Feb. 27th.

“We anticipate she will enter guilty pleas to a single charge of impaired driving causing death and a single charge of impaired driving causing bodily harm on Feb. 27th,” says Crown counsel spokesman Dan McLaughlin.

McLaughlin says Vance is expected to be sentenced the same day, with six other charges expected to be stayed.

A van T-boned a car in downtown Vernon around 1 am on Oct. 23rd 2014.

33 year old Erin Smith of Kelowna was killed, and 31 year old Lindsay Hauck of Vernon suffered arm and head injuries.

The two women were nurses on a break from working at Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the time.

“The sentencing range for impaired driving causing death, there is no minimum sentence, the maximum sentence is life in prison,” adds McLaughlin.

The van allegedly ran a red light and struck Smith’s car in the intersection of 30th Avenue and 32nd Street.
