Lake Country Adding Another Sub-Division

Feb 14, 2017 | 7:46 AM

Lake Country is the fastest growing community in the Okanagan and with that council is working on a bylaw to allow construction of the Hangingstone sub-division just north of the Recreational Centre.
The property is being rezoned from high density to urban residential allowing for a 176 unit mixed row housing – single family development to go ahead.
Mark Koch, Director of Community Services says the concept fits in well with the Official Community Plan.
“The idea is obviously mixing of uses, trying to have a little less dependence on the automobile.  It is definitely a part of the vision to have a mix of additional residential uses within close proximity of the town centre.”
Koch says higher density of this proposal fits their community plan perfectly.
“We understand based on their proposal this is 176 units of housing.  As that moves forward a sub-division is ultimately the final step when the final detail in terms of total unit counts is determined.”
The location really compliments the whole downtown core.
“The developer was also proposing a pedestrian bridge across the creek to access main street, so definitely a nice feature to have that walkability to tie in with the density and the town centre.”
Developers need to rework the plans to include sidewalks, more parking and more green space before Council will move it to a second or third reading.
