Carnival Considers Next Theme
Fantastic.
That’s how Vernon Winter Carnival chair Deb White describes how the 57th annual event went, much of which she attributes to the Canadian flavour.
“I think everybody got involved this year due to the patriotic theme (Canada celebrates 150), but everybody was so happy. It was fabulous,” White tells Kiss FM.
White says many events were well attended over the ten day mid winter festival.
“I believe we had over ten events that were sold out. Usually we have a few that are close, but this year we had more than enough that were sold out.”
White says organizers will meet later this month to talk about next year’s theme, adding they already have more than dozen suggestions.
“We are asking the community for help to pick next year’s theme. If you have a suggestion, give us a call at the office, or an email, or send us a message on Facebook.”
White says the board of directors will meet Feb. 28th to discuss how this year’s event went, and choose the winners for things like best new event, best long time event and others.
“And at that time we will pick next year’s theme. And then on March 9th we’ll be handing out the awards and probably announcing the theme if we’ve agreed on one by then.”
White says she will be remaining as the chair, as part of a two year term for the volunteer position.
She thanks the sponsors and the 300 volunteers who helped put it on.
“The number of countless hours that they have put in, we couldn’t have done the carnival without it,” adds White.
