Campground Gets Break to Comply

Feb 14, 2017 | 6:46 AM

A “notice of title” being considered for the Silver Star RV Park at the south end of Swan Lake by the North Okanagan Regional District has been deferred.
The owner has applied for missing permits and has conducted a survey of the property as required by the building code.
RDNO Chair Bob Fleming says he may have dodged a bullet.
“They may have as long as they keep working towards what the ultimate goal was which was to try to come into some sort of compliance with the planning and building codes.”
The owner had failed to obtain the proper permits and to conduct a survey of his property while making alterations and improvements. Fleming says he didn’t realize he wasn’t in compliance on a number of issues.
“It’s one of those things where I think some people go, ‘all we did was this, we just moved this or we just did that’  Sometimes people don’t realize what triggers a building permit.”
Fleming says it’s been decided to give him a break.
“Unfortunately they were unaware of some of things the survey has revealed and so on,so they are working on it and as long as they are working on it our planning staff think we should just carry on and work towards compliance.”
The campground has until April to make progress on compliance before the issue is brought back before the board.
