Wildfire Prevention At Predator Ridge
Residents of Predator Ridge Resort can expect to see some wildfire prevention work in their community this spring.
The City of Vernon is applying for a $10,000 grant from the Union of BC Municipalities to cover some costs.
Mayor Akbal Mund says the city will likely proceed with the work — even if they don’t get the funds
“We need to get in there and clean some of the brush up, but we have the availability of the grant which offsets any costs to the taxpayer,” says Mund. “You would have to do it long before the summer. I would think if you didn’t do it by April, then you would have to do it after the summer.
A wildfire broke out about 2 kilometres north of the resort last August, caused by a downed power line.
Predator Ridge spans 485 hectares (1,200 acres) and is home to a community of over 600 residents.
