Update: Avalanche Cleared on Trans Canada

Feb 8, 2017 | 12:25 PM

Update: 1 pm
Traffic is moving again on Highway 1 between BC and Alberta.
The Trans Canada Highway reopened around 12:30 after being blocked since an avalanche came down east of Field last night.
However , travel is not recommended between Craigalachie to the Alberta border, with forecasts calling for 30 to 40 cm’s of snow from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass.

An avalanche in Yoho National Park east of Field has closed the Trans-Canada highway completely.
No traffic is moving between Field and the Alberta border.
Motorists can detour by taking Highways 95 & 93 through Invermere.  There is no estimate of time for the avalanche to be cleared away and Highway 1 re-opened.
