Mobile Vendors Policies Developed in Enderby

The city of Enderby will be allowing mobile vendors in their community as long as they apply for a $75 business license before March 31st each year.

Mayor Greg McCune also says each vendor must pay a $100 public spaces rental fee as well.

“We ideally want them in a certain place. We don’t want to approve them for a downtown location and then find them over by the high school instead…that sort of thing.”

Most Okanagan municipalities make businesses buy new business licenses each year. Mobile vendors will be the only businesses in Enderby required to renew their license each year though.

“There is a cost to the City, so we had staff look at coming up with what we thought was a reasonable cost to just cover some of the costs of having to monitor that type of business.”

McCune says inquiries for mobile vendors continue to grow in number each year.

“So we figure before it gets too big, lets set out some guidelines so that everybody understands. If they do come to our community, they know what the playing field is.”

Council also adopted it’s new no-smoking by-law which prohibits lighting up or vaping within 6 metres of any public building, doorway or playground
