Below Normal Snowpack

The Okanagan has had lots of snow lately — but it hasn’t been a particularly snowy winter.

The region’s snowpack levels are 79% of normal.

Dave Campbell from the River Forecast Centre says it’s too soon to predict what will happen with the Okanagan’s levels.

“It’s a little bit below normal, but it’s not alarmingly so. It’s certainly a basin to watch closely over the next 4 to 8 weeks,” Campbell tells Kiss FM.

Campbell says other areas of BC are down more.

“There is a fairly low snowpack in the northern part of the province, the Stikine and the Liard, which are ranging from 49 to 60 percent,” says Campbell.

The provincial average is 79 percent of normal, down from last month’s 82%.

The highest snowpack is in Nechako at 101 percent of normal.
