Games Gets $25,000 For Promotion
Vernon will provide $25,000 for the 55+ BC Games this September.
The funding for promotion comes from Hotel Tax revenue.
The Games are anticipated to draw up to 4,000 visitors to Vernon, with an expected $2.1 million economic impact.
“These are plus 55. They are going to spend money on accommodations, on restaurants, and other services in the community, so it’s a pretty good idea,” says Mayor Akbal Mund. “It’s a small price to pay, and all the accomodators and businesses have a chance to get something out it.”
“We are extremely pleased to support the 55 + BC Games in Vernon,” says Claus Larsen, Chair of the Tourism Advisory Committee.
Vernon Tourism is responsible for promoting the City and area. It generates the majority of its funds through the collection of a two-per-cent Municipal Regional District Hotel Tax.
The event will be held Sept. 12-16 in Greater Vernon and Armstrong.
