Penticton Fire Human Caused

Sep 2, 2018 | 7:58 AM

It may be cooler but another wildfire has popped up in the Vernon fire zone and another in the Penticton zone.

Nicole Bonnett of the BC Wildfire Service told Beach Radio News, close to 160 personnel continue to fight and monitor four major Monashee Complex wildfires, including 100 on the Harris Creek fire southeast of Lumby.

She says they will likely remain in the area throughout the remainder of the long weekend.

The B-C Wildfire Service confirms the larger of the two fires, burning south of Penticton, remains within the local fire department’s jurisdiction.

They are getting assistance from fire crews from Okanagan Falls and the B-C Wildfire Service.

Officials suspect these fires were caused by human activity and remind people to check all fire prohibitions before lighting campfires.

Due to increased temps and gusty winds, the Old Tom Creek BC wildfire burning NW of Keremeos has spread into grassland SW of the fire.

It’s now visible from BC Hwy3. Increased fire activity will be visible thru the evening hours. There is currently no threat to property or Hwy3
