Vernon Youth Climate Corps have had a busy summer so far

The local chapter of the Youth Climate Corps have had a very busy summer in the North Okanagan.

The four-youth team in Vernon said in a presentation to the city that a lot had already been accomplished by the teenagers.

That included completing 32 Home Ignition Zone FireSmart assessments; running the Bike Valet at 16 community events and at Cenotaph and Polson Parks; led Seed Ball workshops; done invasive species education and outreach work; spent two days removing a 140 pounds of invasive plants from the Sísp̓ l̓k̓ Food Forest; and supported the North Okanagan Permaculture Collective in their work on local food security, ecosystem restoration and environmental education.

The youth also received their first aid and Local FireSmart Representative certifications over the course of their time in the paid positions.
