Man Could Face Assault, Firearms Charges From Standoff

Feb 6, 2018 | 1:47 PM

A 33 year old man faces possible charges of assault and firearm offences after a 15 hour standoff with police in a Coldstream neighborhood.

Nearby residents were evacuated early Monday morning, and armed officers surrounded a house in the 11800 block of Torrent Drive after a man who apparently had a firearm, refused to surrender himself to police.

“Through further investigation, police learned that the 33 year old suspect male allegedly assaulted and uttered threats to another female resident of the home, who was able to depart the premise to safety prior to police arrival,” says Cst. Kelly Brett.

The suspect male was apprehended without incident Monday afternoon, and a firearm was seized from the home.

The female victim was treated for minor injuries.

“Again the North Okanagan RCMP would like to thank the public and residents that were affected by the incident for their patience and support as we worked to resolve the situation with the desired peaceful outcome it had,” says Brett. “The scene was secured overnight to allow for further investigation and as a result a search warrant was executed on the home and a firearm was seized.”

The investigation is ongoing and no further details will be released.
