Vernon North Okanagan RCMP had to disable a vehicle in order to make an arrest Saturday evening.

At around 6 p.m. July 11, police received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked outside a residence on 25th Avenue.

Police responded and located the vehicle travelling on 24th Avenue, but when officers tried to initiate a traffic stop the suspect fled at a high speed.

Officers did not pursue out of concern for public safety, but later that evening the same vehicle was spotted in the Predator Ridge neighbourhood.

Mounties, with assistance from the RCMP Police Dog Service team, set up a containment area and deployed a spike belt, which was ultimately used to disable the suspect vehicle.

A 23 year old man from Surrey was arrested and faced a number of criminal charges. He was due to appear in Vernon court Monday.
