We have spent the last term building a solid foundation of data, smart growth principles, and community-backed blueprints, successfully bringing nearly 88 per cent of our 2023–2026 Strategic Plan initiatives to completion or active progress,” Fehr said in the release.

“Planning is a valuable starting point, but true progress comes from working together to bring those visions to life.”

The Councillor pointed to the Active Living Centre, noting it was approved in 2022 and the city had pushed the project forward so it would be ready to open for the public in the fall of 2026.

Looking forward, Fehr said the next four years should be heavily focused on practical climate adaptation and infrastructure resilience.

“We are currently facing the urgent reality of our fifth consecutive multi-year drought and are now in Stage 3 water restrictions,” Fehr stated.

“Environmental leadership can no longer be just a policy discussion for the future; it is about addressing the immediate climate realities affecting our local economy, agricultural stakeholders, and households.”

Fehr said the past eight years he had been focused on three principles; fairness, fiscal responsibility, and evidence-based decision-making, and that he could serve residents by focusing on those and some other key factors if elected for a third term.

• Housing Diversity and Affordability – Streamlining development approval processes and building strong non-profit partnerships to meet provincially mandated housing targets
• Climate Adaption and Water Security – Partnering regionally to build long-term drought resilience and protect our residents and agricultural stakeholders
• Sustainable Infrastructure and Recreation Investment – Capitalizing on major community spaces, such as completing the new Active Living Centre and advancing the Polson Park Revitalization Plan
• Public Safety and Community Well-Being – Supporting collaborative, evidence-based approaches to public safety, mental health, and universal accessibility
• Collaborative Regional Leadership – Bridging gaps between local government, community organizations, and neighbouring jurisdictions to solve complex issues

“Municipal government does not control every challenge our community faces, but local leadership still matters enormously,” Fehr stated.

“Council has an important role in planning responsibly, building partnerships, managing resources wisely, and ensuring Vernon remains a welcoming and resilient community for people of all backgrounds and generations.”

He went on to say Vernon was growing and evolving and had “tremendous potential,” and wanted to be involved in forwarding the plans and seeing them come to fruition.

The General Local Election will take place October 17.
