Dancing with the Vernon Stars raises over $202K for hospice

Oct 9, 2026 | 12:15 PM

The annual fundraiser in support of local hospice care was another major success.

Dancing with the Vernon Stars gala was held Oct. 3, and featured a judged dance performance, dinner, live and silent auction, and raffle draws.

In total, the dancing teams’ fundraising efforts and the gala raised $202,668.65 for the North Okanagan Hospice Society.

Along with raising the money for the end-of-life care, the dancers also won some awards:

Fan Funded Award: Elks 45-ers (Trevor Sidney, Elaine Host, Trevor Jordan, Molly March, Dan Irvine, Carol Benz, Linda Parker-Fisk, Kristin Froneman, Kathleen Lainsbury, Monique Haziza, Gregory Jack, Guida Atkinson, Michael Hamblett, Maureen Soichuk, Jane Johnston)

  • People’s Choice Award: Jung at Heart (Stephanie Sylvain & Ching Yu)
  • Judges’ Choice Award: Jung at Heart
  • Most Money Raised: The Mis-Steps (Kari & Mike Statham)
  • Family & Fans Tables & Tickets Sold: Jung at Heart

“While there may have been awards handed out, the true stars of the evening were every one of our dance teams. These incredible community members gave months of their time, energy, courage and heart to this event. They practiced, fundraised, rallied their friends and families, stepped outside their comfort zones and took to the stage, all to support Hospice,” Dancing with the Vernon Stars organizers said in a release.

“To our dancers: thank you. Your commitment means more than we can say. Every rehearsal, every ticket shared, every dollar raised and every step on that dance floor helped make a difference for individuals and families in our community.”

Money raised through the event will go towards end-of-life programs and services in the North Okanagan including in-home care, grief and bereavement counselling, and educational resources.

North Okanagan Hospice Society added it was already preparing for the event in 2027, and said anyone interested in participating could email events@nohs.ca.
