Missing boater found deceased in Mara Lake

The body of a missing boater in the Shuswap was located Tuesday.

Police said the man’s body was recovered from Mara Lake July 14 by the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team (URT) and RCMP National Underwater Recovery Training Centre (NURTC).

The man was reported missing July 10 by a group of friends he had been boating with after he was unaccounted for at the end of the day.

“Thank you to the URT, NURTC, Search and Rescue volunteers, and all partner agencies for their efforts throughout this operation,” Sgt. Murray McNeil, Sicamous RCMP Detachment Commander, stated.

“While this is a tragic outcome, we hope the recovery of the missing man brings some closure to his family and friends. Our thoughts remain with them during this difficult time.”
