Two people have been injured in an accident that has closed Highway 97 south of the city in the Kekuli Bay area.

The road is closed in both directions because of a semi trailer that slipped out of control on the icy road and took out part of the median.

The driver of the rig was treated for minor injuries and a passenger was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Motorists are advised to use Commonage road as an alternate.

Police say it could be an hour to an hour and a half before highway is re-opened.

An accident has shut down Highway 97 in the Kekuli Bay area and it could be some time before it’s re-opened.

A semi trailer took out a section of the median and is jackknifed across the highway.

Beach Radio listener Jody Marshall was not far behind the scene.

“The cab itself is up against the rocks and it looks like there are injuries as the people were on the side of the road and people were attending to them.”

People are asking southbound motorists to take Commonage Road.

But Commonage is very slippery due to the snow last night and a few cars have gone off the road along there as well.
