Routine Police Stop Nets Theft Suspect

On January 31st, 2018 at approximately 2:00 am, the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP caught up with a break and enter suspect during a routine traffic stop. The RCMP Member conducted what he thought was going to be a regular traffic stop for speeding and a no insurance violation, but instead found an alleged break and enter suspect sitting in the driver seat.

The male driver was identified by police and arrested for allegedly breaking and entering into a home on 30th Ave on January 22nd, 2018. Found in his possession were some of the victims belongings from that break and enter as well as a numerous other break and enter instruments.

Routine traffic stops can be one of the highest risk things police officers do, as you never know what or who you are going to encounter, says Cst. Kelly Brett. This particular stop went well and the officer was able to identify the suspect and take him into custody without incident.

The 37 year old Vernon male, Bradley Joy, was charged with two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of break and enter instruments.
