Food Drive in Lavington-Lumby

The annual food drive for the Lumby Food Bank gets underway tonight.

Volunteers will be collecting items from homes in Lavington starting at 5:30 pm.

Organizer Gary McLaughlin, a constable with the RCMP, says the shelves at the food bank are pretty bare.

“They need help more than ever. We’re going into Thanksgiving, Christmas isn’t far away and that’s some of their biggest needs. They support at least 40 to 50 families every month without fail. They work their tails off,” McLaughlin tells Kiss FM.

People are asked to leave non perishable food items at the end of their driveways, with realtors, emergency service staff and volunteers will be helping with the pick up.

“We’re so blessed because volunteers are never an issue. People call me, they stop me on the street asking if I need help. We have tons of volunteers.”

Food items will be collected in Lumby on Wednesday, starting at 5:30 pm.
