Local Man Injured In Vegas Massacre

An Okanagan man was among those wounded in last night’s mass shooting in Las Vegas.

Braden Matejka, who grew up in Enderby, is in a Las Vegas hospital and said to be doing okay after being grazed in the head by a bullet.

Matejka was at the Vegas concert Sunday with some friends from Lake Country.

At least two Canadians were killed, including 23 year old Jordan Mclldoon from Maple Ridge.

The other was a woman from Alberta.

At least 58 people were killed and 515 were injured at the Route 51 Harvest Music Festival on the Strip.

It’s an outdoor country music festival.

Country music star Jason Aldean was in the middle of a song when the shots came rapidly:

Video of the shooting then showed Aldean stopping and the crowd getting quiet as if they were unsure of what had just happened.

The gunman paused and then fired another volley of muzzle flashes from his room across the street at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino as more victims fell to the ground while others fled in panic.

A 64 year old man identified as Stephen Paddock was the suspected gunman and was found dead, having killed himself, before police got his room on the 32nd floor of the Hotel

Around him were several weapons.

It’s the deadliest mass shooting in modern U-S history.

U-S President Donald Trump this morning offered condolences to the families of the victims.

Trump also ordered flags to be flown at half staff at all government buildings in the country and said he would travel to Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Clark County sheriff  Joseph Lombardo says police believe it was what he called a “lone wolf” attack.

But now, The Islamic State is claimed responsibility, saying Paddock was ” a soldier” who had converted to Islam months ago.

Their statement did not provide any evidence to support the claim and the FBI and police in Paddock’s home town of Mesquite say they have found nothing to indicate any connection.
