Vernon Leaders Talk Opiod Crisis With Minister

Sep 28, 2017 | 6:10 AM

The City of Vernon is hoping the new BC government will come up with a way to deal with the opioid crisis affecting many communities.

Mayor Akbal Mund says they met with addictions and mental health minister Judy Darcy at the UBCM.

“Some of these people, they need help we can’t give them because we don’t have the resources to do it. Hopefully, the new government here takes a look at this and goes, okay, how can we help communities.”

Mund says just having a ministry dedicated to those issues is a great start.

“Anytime you can say okay, We’ve admitted we all have an issue in our communities. Now,. how do we combat that issue?”

Mund says Darcy was open and receptive on the need to find solutions to the crisis affecting many communities.
