City Maintains Burning Ban

Not all municipalities are following the lead of the BC Wildfire Service in lifting campfire bans.

The City of Armstrong is maintaining its ban on all open air burning until conditions improve.

“The City is expecting minimal precipitation over the next 14 days and fire conditions remain high to extreme,” says Armstrong/Spallumcheen Fire Chief Ian Cummings. “The fire department will continue to evaluate the conditions and make recommendations accordingly.”

Anyone found in contravention of an open burning prohibition may be subject to fines with a minimum penalty of $150.

If the contravention causes or contributes to a wildfire, those responsible may be subject to fines up to $10,000 and ordered to pay all firefighting and associated costs.
