Off-Road Vehicle Ban To Be Lifted

An off-road vehicle ban imposed last month due to the fire danger is about to be lifted.

The BC Wildfire Service says off-road vehicles like ATV’s and motorbikes will once again be permitted on Crown land in the Kamloops, Cariboo and Southeast fire centres as of noon Wednesday.

The Service says cooler weather and recent precipitation have reduced the flammability of fine fuels, and significantly reduced the chance of a fire starting from a spark, or a hot engine.

Some area restrictions will stay in place near large wildfires to help protect public safety and allow firefighting operations to continue efficiently.

“The use of off-road vehicles will continue to be prohibited in the restricted areas around these wildfires,” says a media release.

Campfire bans are still in effect throughout the Cariboo, Kamloops, and Southeast fire centres.
