Police Search For Suspect From Air and Ground

There was a heavy police presence in Spallumcheen as Mounties searched for a prolific offender.

The suspect — who was known to police as violent and a flight risk — was spotted by an off duty Salmon Arm cop on Hullcar Road Monday morning.

The suspect fled into the bush and allegedly dropped a firearm as he fled.

“Several RCMP Police Service Dog units, Air Services, and officers from the Vernon North Okanagan and Salmon Arm detachments converged on the area to contain the area to be searched,” says Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.

“Members with the Southeast District Emergency Response Team attended and provided support to the police dog units.”

Numerous searches were conducted throughout the morning in the rural area that the suspect was believed to be hiding in.

Moskaluk says several hours later, around 12:45 pm, a man was located hiding under a log in a creek bed and was taken into custody.

“The man was transported to the Salmon Arm Detachment where his warrants originated,” says Moskaluk.

The suspect, who police say is a prolific property offender wanted on several outstanding warrants, faces the possibility of several new charges.
