MP ‘Inundated’ With Tax Change Calls

The House of Commons is back in session today.

One of the issues North Okanagan-Shuswap MP Mel Arnold says his party will press the Liberals on is proposed corporate tax changes.

He says there’s been no opportunity to question the government on that.

Arnold says a lot of people are going to be hurt.

“I’ve been inundated with calls from farmers, from health care professionals, small business people, everything from the two person company up to 130 employees and they’re absolutely outraged with what this government is planning to do.”

Arnold thinks part of that is just a tax grab to pay down its projected deficits.

“Yeah, I think that, you know, they can’t run these deficits without the public causing a stir and an outcry so so they’ve got to find ways of trying to bring in some tax returns in a short term.”

It’s not just small business owners, but lawyers and doctors who are concerned proposals such as restricting income splitting among family members.

There will also be changes to capital gains regulations and how businesses handle investments.
